The Western Regional HQs of SAI is established in Gandhinagar , Gujarat in the Sports Complex situated at Sector 15, Gandhinagar , which was transferred to SAI by the State Govt. Of Gujarat on long lease basis (for 99 years). SAI Western Regional Centre was  inaugurated on 29th August 1987 to implement the objective and sports promotional schemes of SAI in the western region comprising of the  following States /UTs: Gujarat , Maharashtra , Goa , Rajasthan, UT Daman & Diu, UT Dadra & Nagar Haveli

 

The State Govt of Gujarat handed over the Sports Complex with 6O acres to SAI initially on 20th July 2010, the State Govt of Gujarat took back 7.5 acres of land out of 64 Acres for the development of the Mahatma Mandir Project and allotted 7.5Acres in Sector 25 Gandhinagar with a commitment to construct a New Guest House, Swimming Pool Complex witgh filtration plant and portion of boundary wall affectedin the process

 

Due to Regular National Coaching Camps conducted for PARA Athletes in the discipline of Athletics, Power Lifting , Table tennis, Swimming, the Centre has been nominated as a " Nodal Centre" for preparation of PAra-Athletes for Olympics Games at Rio(Brazil) August-2016.

Since SAI Western REgion Gandhinagar has been identified as Nodel Centre for training of Para Athletes for participating in RIO Olympic Games August-2016, the 7.5acres of land in Sector 25 Gandhinagar is proposed for Centre of Excellence for Differently-Able sportspersons.

Vide SAI Notification dated 23.06.2015, Goverrning Body of SAI in its 44th Meeting held on 25.05.2015, has seperated the SAI Centre situated in the state of Maharashtra, Goa and Union territories of Daman, Diu and Dadra Nagar Haveli from the juridiction of SAI Western Centre at Gandhinagar Gujarat.
